Biden formally signed an executive order unfreezing Afghan assets in the United States

U.S. President Joe Biden has signed an executive order to unfreeze Afghan assets in the United States, the White House said Wednesday. The order will release $3.5 billion of the $7 billion in assets to the United States to compensate the families of victims of the September 11 attacks. The remaining $3.5 billion will be used for humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people.In response, Afghan interim government spokesman Mohammad Naim said Biden was “stealing” the property of the Afghan people.(Editing by Zhang Haonan)
